2011 Shiraz ready for drinking!
<![CDATA[
Minersridge 2011 Shiraz is ready for drinking and now available for purchase. Tasted recently with friends, our wine held its own against some other fine Australian wines. 2011 was reported as the year many growers wanted to forget. For us here in the Grampians we fared well through drought, floods and untimely rains and was able to produce a quality wine for your enjoyment.

Pruning in winter
Each year after the excitement of vintage is over, and the vines become dormant so begins pruning time.
Unfortunately this is also the coldest time of the year, and this year has been particularly cold. It has also been quite a wet year and while the rain is welcomed, it does make pruning the least favourite job on a vineyard!
The first vines pruned for the year are always the first ones picked which in our case is our Chardonnay! Andrew finished our Chardonnay a couple of months ago and has moved into the Shiraz which will be finished next week.
Miners Ridge Contracting service expanded out last year and purchased a pre-pruning machine.
As well as preparing our own vineyard ready for easier pruning, Andrew also pre-pruned other local vineyards. Pre-pruning the vines speeds up the process quite dramatically.
The final variety to prune will be the Cabernet. All pruning (much to the relief of Andrew) will be over by September, ready for the weedicide then spraying part of the cycle!
2012 Vintage
Well the 2012 Vintage is now well and truly over in the Grampians region. It was another good year for Miners Ridge. The yield was down slightly which should result in deeper flavours and higher quality fruit. We are very excited about this fruit being made into wine.

With Vintage in full swing across the Grampians Region all the grape growers are watching the weather with great interest. Our Chardonnay was picked 2 weeks ago and we should be picking our Shiraz next week. The Cabernet wont be far behind the Shiraz. The flavours and berry sizes this year are looking good. With the exception of the January rains the season has been kind to us this year and we look forward to a great vintage.
My sisters birthday dinner
For a long time now members of my family have been having bragging sessions over who has grown the best tomatoes, who can be the most creative with a zucchini, who has their own lamb/duck/chicken in their freezer.
