| Still safe from fires but still quiet. |
| Just when we thought we had got over the Grampians fires it seems they are not done with us yet. We are safe here from both the fires and the smoke so very grateful for that. The new fires in the Grampians are on the other side of the mountain but a lot of the park is now closed. The area has been incredibly quiet, and everyone is looking forward to better times. We also experienced some crazy weather recently with storms and incredibly hot weather. Again, we have been lucky that the storms didn’t bring hail, but they did keep emergency services busy with many small fires breaking out due to dry lightning. These were put out very quicky as the wind was mild. The wildlife is very hungry this year with many birds and hopping mammals starting to look at our green vineyard like a picnic ground. Last weekend on 2 very hot days with the help of my mother and her friend we started the netting process to keep them at bay. Our grapes are holding up well, we are grateful to be on the wastewater pipeline to be able to keep the water up to them during this weather. The smoke has also stayed away which is fantastic for us, unfortunately some closer to the mountains may not pick but we are still on track for a great vintage. Halls Gap and this side of the mountain are all open for business and everyone is excited about people coming back when they are ready. If you can’t come back the best way to support this area is to buy from local businesses with an online store, purchase a gift voucher for future use and start planning your next trip to the area! |
