Well the 2012 Vintage is now well and truly over in the Grampians region. It was another good year for Miners Ridge. The yield was down slightly which should result in deeper flavours and higher quality fruit. We are very excited about this fruit being made into wine.
The season was very dry with the exception of the rain we experienced in January which caused a few stressful moments for grape growers in the district. The rain slowed the ripening down slightly which resulted in the fruit being picked about a week later than originally anticipated.
With all the fruit gone, all that is left to do is to give the vines a good drink and spread some organic fertiliser (we are using cow manure), and take a bit of time to recoup before the next stage…… pruning!
This weekend is the now annual ‘Armstrong Vintage Cutout’. This involves all the growers in our area getting on a bus and going to a secret destination to celebrate / destress another vintage gone!
